The Annual Sports Day 2025

Some days don’t just end — they stay in your memory for a long time. The Annual Sports Day of our college in 2025 was one of those days for me as it was the last annual sports competition in my college.

After all the events were over, a friendly cricket match was arranged between the students and the teachers. I joined the teachers’ team. I was a little nervous but also excited because I hadn’t played cricket seriously in years.

When my turn to bat came, it was the last over. Everyone was cheering loudly. I got just a couple of balls to face — but somehow, I managed to hit a few fours! That moment brought a big smile to everyone’s face. Our team’s captain was so happy that he handed me the ball for the first over when we started bowling. It was like a small reward, and I felt proud to contribute.

The game went on with laughter, small jokes, and friendly competition. Everyone wanted to win, but no one wanted to lose the fun. We all shared snacks and drinks like old friends during the inning break. In the end, our team — the teachers — won the match. We all clapped.

As I walked back after the game, tired but smiling, my mind went back to my school days. Back then, we also had a friendly cricket match between students and teachers every year. That was one of the most awaited moments for all of us. I can still see those days clearly — the field full of noise, students cheering, and the teachers smiling proudly when they hit a boundary.

I never played in the students’ team, but I was always part of their excitement. I remember helping my friends with practice and even bowling to the teachers during their warm-up. Really “Wo bhi kya din the” — those were the days.

Now, after so many years, standing on the same kind of field, this time as part of the staff, I could feel those old emotions returning. It was like life had come full circle — the same game, the same fun, only the side had changed.

As the sun began to set behind the old Banyan tree, the golden light touched the empty ground. Everyone had left, but I stood there for a few moments, feeling both happy and emotional. The laughter, the cheering, and the sound of the ball hitting the bat still echoed in my mind.

That day reminded me that life keeps moving, but memories never fade. We may grow older, our roles may change, but the spirit of joy, friendship, and teamwork remains the same. Maybe that’s what makes these simple moments truly special — they remind us how far we’ve come, yet how deeply connected we still are to who we once were.
